PPSA 2026 Summer Event Recap: Ladies Shoot and Vintage Military Fun Match
Prickly Pear Sportsmen’s Association members enjoyed two successful shooting events during the spring and summer of 2026: the annual Ladies Shoot and the Vintage Military Fun Match. We appreciate everyone who participated, volunteered, donated prizes, or helped make these events possible.
2026 Ladies Shoot
PPSA held its 2026 Ladies Shoot on June 13 at the Rimfire Range. Twelve women participated in two shooting flights, using a variety of .22-caliber pistols and rifles equipped with open sights and scopes.
The event was designed to provide a relaxed and enjoyable opportunity for women to meet other PPSA members and spend time at the range. Participants had a wide selection of targets, including paper targets, steel gongs, stationary animal silhouettes, hanging tennis balls, water jugs filled with colored water, and hanging golf balls.
The hanging golf balls provided one of the day’s most entertaining challenges. Shooters attempted not only to hit the golf balls but also to make them move or flip over the bars from which they were suspended.
PPSA extends a special thank-you to board members Cory Olson, Travis Clennon, Rob Brooks, and Greg Woodrow, as well as PPSA member Ralph Rizzo, for helping set up and conduct the event.
We also thank Kyle Basden of Range 406 and Tom Mandera for their contributions to the participant swag bags. Range 406 donated nine complimentary one-hour range passes, while Tom provided thumb-assisted magazine loaders. Their generosity helped make the day even more memorable for the participants.

2026 Vintage Military Fun Match
PPSA’s Vintage Military Fun Match was held from May 1 through June 15 as a free, honor-system postal match. The match was open to PPSA members using as-issued vintage metallic-cartridge military rifles or faithful reproductions of rifles first issued between 1863 and 1950.
Participants fired a 40-round course at 300 yards from the prone, sitting, kneeling, and standing positions. Eleven shooters entered the match with an impressive variety of historic military rifles, including M1 Garands, a Springfield 1903A3, a British Enfield, Swiss Schmidt-Rubin rifles, Swedish Mausers, and a Mosin-Nagant.
