About Us
Welcome to Prickly Pear Sportsmen’s Association (PPSA). Our objective is to conserve and perpetuate fishing, hunting, and other outdoor sports as high-quality recreational activities in the State of Montana. We promote high standards of sportsmanship, marksmanship, and safe firearm education.

Our Range on McDonald Pass
PPSA maintains a shooting range nestled in the pine forest on McDonald Pass, creating a beautiful setting where members can enjoy:
- Rifle ranges at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards
- A pistol range with retractable targets
- A .22 reactive target area for younger shooters
Range Location and Access
The range is located on Highway 12 West, about 10 miles west of Helena toward McDonald Pass. Watch for signage as you approach the range, including Mile 31. Members use their code to unlock the gate, enter, and secure the gates behind them.
Safety-First Culture
PPSA is committed to a safe and respectful range environment. Eye and hearing protection are required, and members are expected to follow posted range rules and standard cease-fire procedures.
Membership and Guests
Membership applications are available in Helena at Capital Sports, Murdoch’s, and Sportsman’s Warehouse. Membership is $50 per year (Jan 1–Dec 31) and includes your spouse and immediate family under 18.
Guests are allowed only with a guest pass and must be accompanied by a sponsoring member; guest passes are $10 per person, per visit.
Education and Scholarships
PPSA supports education through scholarship opportunities, including a scholarship award of $500 to two successful candidates (see the Education page for current details and the application link).
Leadership and Getting Involved
PPSA is volunteer-led and member-supported. If you’d like to help with range projects or club activities, please reach out through our Contact page or connect with the Board listed on our Club Officers page.
