PPSA 2026 Letter To The Membership from Board Chair Cory Olson
As we move into the summer season, we look forward to nice weather, family vacations, time outdoors, and the freedom to enjoy the best Montana has to offer.
I’d like to take this opportunity to update you on the range and the work that has been completed during the first half of 2026.
The downrange light system is working smoothly. The cameras are up and running. New range markers are in place on the pistol range. We have new benches installed, and PPSA is on track to exceed 2,000 members for the first time.
We are also in the middle of our 2026 Postal Shoot competition, and Saturday, June 13, is our 3rd Annual Ladies Rimfire Shoot. Ladies, there is still time to sign up before we kick things off Saturday morning.
Additional improvements have also been made around the property. A new catwalk has been installed on the garage to help with clearing snow from the solar panels, and we believe we have worked the bugs out of the generator.
You may have also noticed that our website has been completely rebuilt and is now better than ever. One of our board members has upgraded and improved the site, modernized the PPSA logo, and helped give the membership the improved communication you have deserved for years. PPSA is now able to inform and update members better and faster than ever before.
As proud as we are of these accomplishments, I also want to remind members of a few important items we are still working hard to improve.
Please remember that our main gate is not automatic. It needs to be secured open when you enter or exit, and it must be physically shut once your vehicle is through it.
We will also be upgrading the keypad to a much more robust model that should better withstand weather and vibration. This should help eliminate the recent glitches that have left some members locked in or locked out of the range.
Please make sure you are familiar with the updated rules regarding forced reset triggers, binary triggers, and bump stocks. Also remember that only handguns are allowed on the handgun range, and only rimfire firearms are allowed on the rimfire range.
Please make sure your guests are obtaining and paying for guest passes. Each member may bring up to two guests per visit, and members are responsible for the behavior of their guests.
PPSA also continues to work on lead mitigation across all ranges. We will have range closures due to this in the coming month. We are spending a considerable amount of time and money to ensure we are respecting the environment and the land we are so fortunate to be entrusted with.
During the week of June 8 through June 12, some range areas may be affected on certain day or days due to lead mitigation work. No full range closure is currently expected during that week, but we do know the vendor will be working on certain ranges on June 10th for sure, maybe the other days.
Beginning Monday, June 22, lead mitigation work is expected to begin on the long range and continue for roughly two weeks. This will be extensive work and all ranges will be impacted (closed) on different days during this time. We do not have an exact schedule for each range closure, so please be aware that some ranges may be closed for a few hours, a full day, or possibly longer as this work is completed. Please be understanding and respectful to the workers while these improvements are underway. The entire range will not be shut down, but certain areas will be as they progress through the work. We don’t know exact details of when/how long each range will be down, as they have to start the work to figure out how long each may take. Please reference our website and plan ahead if you intend to come to the range during this time period.
